Alájar has some of the most captivating urban landscapes in the Sierra de Aracena. It’s not uncommon to find streets with beautiful authentic houses that share the story of old times.  From within the village, you can see the natural monument of “Peña de Arias Montano”

The Alcaudón house, in particular, has some characteristics that make it very unique. One of them is the barrel vault (cave) made of rustic brick, which leads up to a patio made entirely of masonry walls and mud brick. The main construction is made with masonry walls, forged with logs and covered with special tiles.

The plot consists of the main building, which served as a residence, and a smaller building in the garden, used for storage. It has two floors and an attic. Next, to the patio and orchard, an elevated terrace with views on the mountains and the surrounding Andalusian village stands out as an extra outside space.

This house joins a series of unique projects carried out to highlight the possibilities of an intelligent renovation. In this specific case, we have chosen to maintain the original structure of the house, respecting the layout that results from the positioning of weight-bearing walls and corridors. The history of the place asks for the continuity of the horticultural use in the backyard. Although its size allows exploring different possibilities.
